| Independent ReportsLocationThis hotel is the grand olde dame of buildings in Singapore, located on Beach Road, this former beachfront property is now relegated almost 1 kilometre inland due to the land reclaimation works. Nevertheless its location is within the colonial district where much of Singapore's colonial heritage lies.ExteriorTastefully restored to its original splendour of 1886, as well as improved upon with extensions and modern fittings. The facade is an icon of Singapore.LobbyThe lobby opens up three floor to the glass roof where natural sunlight brightens up the interior. Old style check in counters, the grandfather clock are all original amidst the white marble floor and teak staircase to recreate that old world charm. RoomsThe rooms are large with high ceilings. They have ceiling fans as well as full air-condtioning. Furnishing are old world style with cupboards and dressing table and bed. Bathrooms are glazed tiled, again in the turn of the century style. There is a sitting parlour with a bar and TV at the entrance and beyond the parlour threshold is the bedroom proper. All the charms of the old world with the functionality of the modern. |
